Serenoa repens | Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) has excelled in the historical use of herbal medicines for prostate disorders. This plant is a dwarf palm native of the Atlantic coast from South Carolina to Florida, growing also in southern California. Native Americans used saw palmetto primarily in the treatment of genitourinary disorders and also in the function of a nutritional tonic. Saw palmetto was believed to increase testicular function and alleviate mucous membrane irritation.¹, ²
