Uncaria tomentosa | Cat’s claw is a very popular medicinal plant in Peru and can be found throughout the Peruvian Amazon. Its popular name was inspired by the resemblance of its thorns to cat nails. The Incas were the first to take full advantage of their active ingredients by employing them primarily as an anti-inflammatory in the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism and general inflammation. It was first described in 1830, but began to arouse scientific interest only in 1970, when scientific studies began, especially in Europe, which eventually proved its therapeutic value.1,2
