Ginkgo Herbarium

Ginkgo biloba | The ginkgo tree is considered by the botanists to be a living fossil, being the only specimen of this family, and ancestor of the oak tree.¹ The ginkgo is part of the ancient Chinese therapeutic arsenal, which is mentioned about 2800 years ago, being considered as sacred by the Buddhists who have always planted it near their temples. There is also a pronounced resistance to bacteria, viruses and mutagenic actions of radiation, which may explain their survival after the atomic bomb explosion in Hiroshima, when it was its first manifestation of life.²
